1.
Why was your organization formed?
The ASN.1 Consortium
was formed to promote Abstract Syntax Notation One (ASN.1) and to help
various industries that need an efficient means of sharing data between
diverse platforms, systems, and devices. In the last few years, we have
witnessed the emergence of the Internet, smarter machines and applications,
nanosize devices, and more powerful languages, and we will continue
to see newer developments and discoveries. With ever increasing diversity,
the need for an agent to facilitate seamless communication rises every
second. We believe that ASN.1 is the tool to do just that. ASN.1 has
enabled technologies, such as genetic research databases and telephony
products, that have improved our quality of life. The mission of this
consortium is to move across different industries and bring to them
the following messages: 1. ASN.1 is rich and powerful, 2. ASN.1 is real
world tested, 3. ASN.1 is simple and cost effective, and 4. ASN.1 is
well supported.

2. Are you a standard setting group?
ASN.1 is an open
standard created and guided by the joint ISO/ITU-T. The ASN.1 Consortium
is not a standard setting group. Our aim is to promote the benefits
of ASN.1.

3. What is your relationship to the International
Telecommunication Union (ITU-T)?
We have no formal
relationship with the ITU-T. The ASN.1 Consortium is a non-profit organization
funded by its members who share the passion for a great technology and
wish to bring awareness to it.

4. How do I join?
